278 Ticketless Passengers Caught on a Single Day in Howrah Division

Dubela, Jit Roy:  The Howrah Division of Eastern Railway recently conducted a special ticket checking drive, catching 278 passengers traveling without tickets in just one day. This initiative is part of the railway’s ongoing efforts to curb ticketless travel. The operation involved ticket examiners and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel working together to check passengers at both stations and on trains.

Passengers found without tickets were penalized on the spot, which not only generates additional revenue for the railway but also serves as a reminder for travelers to comply with the rules. Earlier in October 2024, Eastern Railway caught approximately 1.86 lakh ticketless passengers, with around 81,000 of them from the Howrah Division alone.

To make ticket purchase more convenient, the railway has introduced digital options like the UTS mobile app and QR code scanners at stations. Additionally, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) have been installed at many stations to help passengers avoid long queues.

The railway is urging passengers to always travel with a valid ticket. Those found traveling without one will face fines, and in some cases, legal action may be taken. Such drives will continue to ensure fair travel for all passengers.
