Mega Power Outage Cripples Spain and Portugal

Dubela, Riddhi Biswas: A massive power outage swept across Spain and Portugal on Monday, plunging daily life into chaos as millions were left without electricity. Public transport came to a halt, massive traffic jams blocked streets, and several flights were delayed as authorities scrambled to restore order.
E-Redes, the Spanish electricity monitoring company, reported that efforts were being made to bring power back in phases. Parts of Madrid’s metro system was evacuated, and emergency cabinet meetings were called in both Spain and Portugal to address the crisis. Some regions in France also briefly felt the impact.
Officials assured that restoration work was in full swing. However, the disruption served as a reality check of the vulnerabilities and shortcomings in modern infrastructure. By the time of reporting, electricity had begun returning to many areas, though full recovery was expected to take time.
