SC Strikes Down Bengal’s SSC Recruitment, Opposition Demands CM’s Resignation

Supreme Court

Dubela, Amritangshu Paul (Edited By Aryan Bhattacharya): The Supreme Court of India delivered its verdict on the West Bengal SSC recruitment scam, invalidating the appointments of 25,753 teachers and staff members in state-run and state-aided schools across the state. The court stated that the selection process conducted by the West Bengal SSC was ‘vitiated by manipulation and fraud’.

It directed the state government to initiate a fresh recruitment process. However, the court allowed relaxation for disabled employees on humanitarian grounds. Following the judgment, opposition leaders in Bengal questioned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ability to govern the state. Bengal Congress President Shubhankar Sarkar demanded her resignation, urging her to take moral responsibility for the scam.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders, workers, and supporters held a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha, expressing their outrage over the scandal. The day has been marked as one of the darkest days in West Bengal’s education sector. The futures of thousands of young men and women have been thrown into uncertainty because of the SSC scam under the TMC government.
