Trump Cancels Harvard’s Tax-Exempt Status; Says “It’s what they deserve”

Dubela, Ankesh Roy: US President Donald Trump, on Friday morning, declares the cancellation of Harvard University’s tax-exempt status. This decision was taken after the university refuses to follow the government’s administration regulations, policies and campus activism reforms.
Trump announces through his social media platform that “We are going to take away Harvard’s Tax-Exempt Status”. This decision was taken after a clash between government and the university. The University refuses to follow the demands of the government and reforms in college activism.
Earlier the university President, Alan Garber, declares that the institute “will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights” after Trump administration demand for board government and leadership changes at the university including changes in admission policy and diversity in campus. Within few hours of Garber’s statement, Trump froze more than $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts to Harvard. The US President also claimed that the Harvard was abusing its tax-exempt status and says that “I think Harvard is a disgrace,”.
Earlier on April 29, the US government launched an investigation on Harvard University and the Harvard Law review on the basis of reports received by the administration regarding race-based discrimination at the university. Harvard is one of several universities where pro-Palestinian protests broke out during last year’s war in Gaza. Since then, Republican leaders have increased pressure on these universities accusing them of allowing antisemitism. Cambridge and Massachusetts-based universities are also facing backlashes and are being targeted by the government while standing fifth in the Ivy League. Government also stops funding for Universities of Pennsylvania, Brown and Princeton to force them to follow their agenda
