Ceasefire Sparks Hope for Kolkata BSF Jawan's Return

Dubela, Satrajit Das:   Rajani Shaw, wife of BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, has found hope for her husband’s return following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Purnam, who lives in Kolkata and serves at the Punjab border, was taken captive by the Pakistan Rangers on April 23 while performing his duties in the border region of Punjab.

Since his capture, Rajani and her family have endured great anxiety, waiting anxiously for news of his safe return. Initial efforts were made through flag meetings between Indian and Pakistani delegations to secure his release. However, these talks stalled just before India’s surgical strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). Rising military tensions further delayed any repatriation process, causing panic among families like the Shaws.

With the recent ceasefire and a gradual reopening of diplomatic channels, Rajani now sees renewed hope. She has made repeated calls to government officials, urging direct intervention and negotiation to bring her husband back safely through peaceful dialogue.
