SC Halts Deportation to Pakistan; Seeks Visa and Aadhaar verification

Dubela, Prinona Ghosh: On Friday, the Supreme Court halts the deportation of a Bangaluru based family to Pakistan while instructing the center to verify their Aadhar Cards and Passports. A Bangaluru based man Ahmed Tariq Butt and his family was being deported to Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. The court tells the Government to ‘Take Appropriate Decision at the Earliest’. They were Indian Nationals but had passports issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This matter is brought up to a bench that include Justice Surya Kant and N K Singh for verifying the family’s documents. The bench said, “Let an appropriate decision be taken at the earliest, though we are not stating any timeline”. The bench said that the petitioners may move to High Courts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh according to their dissatisfaction.

Through advocate Nand Kishore, Ahmed Tariq Butt said that on April 25, 2025 they received a notice from Foreign Registration Office (FRO) in Srinagar claiming they entered India on 1997 and had obligation to leave India after the expiration of visa.

According to the plea, on April 29 around 9 PM the petitioner’s parents, sister and younger brother were arrested illegally by the Kashmir Police and on April 30 they were forcefully taken to India-Pakistan border to leave India through the border.

Ahmed Tariq Butt and his family were residents of Mirpur till the year 1997. His father moved to Srinagar on 1997, he along with his family shifted there in the year 2000, as said by the plea. The petitioner seeks for the release of his family from Foreign Registration Office’s custody, Srinagar, moving towards the apex court.
