A 2-ball duck for Vaibhav Suryavanshi: Fans Waiting for a Successful Comeback

Dubela, Chhoyee Ghosh: Yesterday, Vaibhav Suryavanshi got out for a two-ball duck against the Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium where, earlier, he scored a ton off just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans. His inability to score any runs paved the way for Mumbai Indians to defeat Rajasthan Royals by a 100 runs margin.
On Thursday night, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed in the first over by Deepak Chahar as he failed to clear mid-on. Unable to score any runs for the team, his disappointment and frustration was visible on the ground while the stadium fell silent. Earlier Vaibhav Suryavanshi has scored a brilliant 35 ball 100 in the same venue showcasing his absolute cricketing skills and breaking the record of Yusuf Pathan (100 off 37 balls). Yet yesterday’s match led him to self-criticism and dissatisfaction. Rohit Sharma was seen giving few words of encouragement to Vaibhav in the post-match handshake. It is important to remember that one match does not define his ability to play in future although many child prodigies have fallen after a brilliant spell in their career. For example, Prithvi Shaw, Vinod Kambli, Atul Bedade, and many others have failed to get up after their first obstruction or failure.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, like many others, comes from a humble background. He was born in a village in Samastipur, Bihar, and his parents made immense sacrifices to make their son play cricket. They sold their land, skipped meals and even travelled several distances to help him play. He is already on the way to make his parents proud and hopefully will continue to do so.
A lot of legendary sports personalities have marked the bench with their brilliance before Vaibhav. Sachin Tendulkar played his first test at Karachi at the age of 16, Serena Williams won the US Open at the age of 17 and Boris Becker had three Grand Slam titles– two Wimbledon’s and an US Open before he turned 19. Vaibhav Suryavanshi takes risk and has a fearless approach to cricket. He stays calm during the pressure and even when he is close to his century. He is not bound by expectations and focuses completely on his game, thus when he got out, he was devastated. Even when he scored his first century in the IPL, he didn’t show a lot of emotions but went on to hit the next ball. This determination shows that he will come back in the next match with more determined mindset and approach.
