Mumbai-Punjab Match Moved to Ahmedabad Owing to ‘Operation Sindoor’ Security Measures

Dubela, Kankana Maity (Edited By Jit Roy): The Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings IPL 2025 match has been relocated from Dharamshala to Ahmedabad. The match was originally scheduled to be held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala but will now take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The change occurred due to security concerns following the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor, which destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) Secretary Anil Patel confirmed that the scheduled match will no longer take place at its original venue. The venue change follows the successful operations carried out by the Indian Army.

As a result of the ongoing Operation Sindoor, all airports in North India are closed until May 10. Due to the venue shift, the Punjab Kings will likely travel to Delhi by road first and then fly to Ahmedabad. Before this, Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals on Thursday, May 8, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Both teams have already arrived in Dharamshala, so there will be no travel issues for that match. Despite recent developments related to Operation Sindoor, BCCI sources have assured the media that the IPL schedule will not be changed.

Both teams are in strong positions for the playoffs. Punjab Kings (PBKS) currently sit third on the table with seven wins from 11 matches and a positive net run rate of +0.376. Mumbai Indians (MI) are close behind in fourth place with the same number of wins but a higher net run rate of +1.156. Punjab Kings, led by captain Shreyas Iyer, are chasing their first-ever IPL title, while Mumbai Indians, captained by Hardik Pandya, are aiming for a record-extending sixth championship.
