Rahul Gandhi urges Prime Minister to Acknowledge Pahalgam Victims as Martyrs

Dubela, Kankana Maity: Congress leader and Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Prime Minister’s Office for a crucial meeting to select the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), sources said.

The high-level selection panel — comprising the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, and the Leader of the Opposition — will appoint a new CBI chief for a fixed two-year term, extendable up to five years. The chief serves a fixed two-year term, extendable up to five years.

CBI Director Praveen Sood’s tenure ends on May 25. An IPS officer from the 1986 Karnataka cadre, Sood took over as head of the Central Bureau of Investigation in May 2023, succeeding Subodh Kumar Jaiswal. Prior to this role, he served as the Director General of Police in Karnataka.
