Dubela, Tanisha Das: On September 1st, 2026, a group of saffron-clad activists surrounded the office of Anandabazar Patrika and painted a few of its white walls of the building into saffron. This kind of incident happened after the famous Bengali published its front page headline by using the term “Gerua gundami,” or saffron hooliganism, to describe the clashes happen in Jadavpur University.

As the publication has published this kind of headline, the chief minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has targeted the newspaper during his rally and stated that the kind of phrase used by the publication has insulted the Hindu faith and the sacred nature of the saffron color. The CM has asked for a written apology, but the newspaper didn’t report any apology or react to it.

The saffron-clad men protested outside the Anandabazar Patrika office and painted it saffron, but after a few hours the authority repainted the wall to its original color.
