Poor condition of the West Bengal government schools

Dubela, Tanisha Das: West Bengal is facing a major education crisis involving the shutdown and merge due to low enrolment in government schools. West Bengal recorded thousands of zero-enrolment schools, prompting a central recommendation to merge these institutions to rationalise sources.

Severe teacher shortages due to recruitment process corruption have created a huge difference between the number of students and the ratio of teachers. In the last decades the declining number of schools has not just shown the educational collapse but also an ethical downgrade. The West Bengal education department has witnessed a very poor state of primary education.

The maximum number of declines has been recorded in South 24 Pargana, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram and more places.  The state West Bengal government must adapt skill-based education and create local job opportunities for youth.
