Israel to Take Full Control of Gaza, Says Officials

Dubela, Anuja Chakraborty: The Israeli government and military are launching to take full control on Hamas, the militant group controlling Gaza. The United Nations, aid organizations, and countries like the United States and those in Europe are also involved. Their strategy includes sending thousands of reserved soldiers and staying in the area for an unknown period. The plan also includes powerful airstrikes and new rules for aid distribution using private security.

The goal is to defeat Hamas, rescue Israeli hostages and prevent Hamas from using humanitarian aid to strengthen its control. The decision to approve the plan for capturing the entire Gaza Strip was made on May 5, 2025, when the Israeli Cabinet ministers voted in favor of this strategy of taking full control over Gaza. This decision comes after the mid-March ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed, which had initially aimed to bring an end to the conflict after the ceasefire. Israel launched intense airstrikes on Gaza which resulted killing hundreds and they captured almost 50% of the territory. Before the truce ended, Israel stopped all humanitarian aid into Gaza, including food and water, setting off what is believed to be the worst humanitarian crisis in nearly 19 months of war. The ban on aid created widespread hunger and shortage. Israel claims the operation is necessary to defeat Hamas, end the war, and rescue the remaining hostages. Officials say Hamas misuses aid for its own purposes, which weakens civilian support and draw out the conflict. The government also hopes the increased pressure will force Hamas to agree to new ceasefire terms.

Although the ongoing war has already displaced over 90% of Gaza’s population. According to local health officials, over 52,000 people have been killed, including many women and children. The UN and aid groups strongly oppose this method, calling it inhumane and accusing Israel of using food and medicine as tools of war.
