AI is facing backlash at the Oscars

Dubela, Tanisha Das: On 1st May 2026, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences came up with a new eligibility rule for the 100th Oscars. All the elements, be it acting, screenwriting, or screenplays, must be human-led.

No AI-generated content will be applicable. It has already been seen that actors, actresses, writers, and producers are striking against AI taking their bread and butter. Somewhere, it’s true that an AI-generated work will not be capable of touching human hearts like humanised content can. AI has a strong standing in many fields, but the Oscars refusing to accept it gives space and more respect to humanised content, which is made with much more hard work.

The Oscars have not just banned the use of AI in the work but have also set a benchmark for other awards to give respect to humanised efforts and emotions within a work to make it realistic. Now it’s really a question of whether other awards will adapt to it or not.
