Dubela: Mamata Banerjee led a sit-in protest (dharna) at Dharmatala (Esplanade), Kolkata, on 2 June 2026. The protest was organized by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) against alleged post-election violence and attacks on party leaders and workers across West Bengal.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that there is an “organized attempt” to weaken and split the TMC through intimidation and political pressure. She accused the BJP of targeting TMC leaders and workers after the recent Assembly elections. The protest was held despite police refusing permission for the originally proposed venue at Rani Rashmoni Avenue. TMC leaders proceeded with the demonstration and shifted activities around the Esplanade area.

Banerjee referred to alleged attacks on senior TMC leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee, as evidence of increasing political violence. Addressing supporters, she declared that TMC would continue its political struggle and warned that if protest rights were curtailed in Kolkata, the agitation could be expanded beyond the state.
