Dubela, Tanisha Das: As per the media gag order, the government employees are being restricted from speaking against the ruling party or the government. Civil servants can’t show any kind of criticism of governmental policies or their way of conducting government rule. If they do so and speak against the state government or central government, steps against them will be taken.

The key restriction for the government employees is that they can’t criticise the state or central government policy publicly. They can’t do media interaction, be it TV or radio or newspaper, without the consent of their department head. They can’t share any form of official documents with the media. They will not be able to post any article or post regarding government matters on social media.

All the guidelines are applicable to all the West Bengal government employees, police, jail staff, IAS officers, state-funded educational institutions and state undertakings. If the government employees don’t follow these rules and regulations, then disciplinary action under service rules will be initiated. Not following the guidelines can lead to suspension, chargesheet and even more.
