Earthquakes in several districts of West Bengal, felt in Kolkata

Dubela: Earthquake tremors were felt across several districts of West Bengal on Sunday, causing concern among residents. The tremors were reported from various parts of North Bengal, including Siliguri and Cooch Behar, while many people in Kolkata and its surrounding areas also experienced mild shaking.

Residents said buildings and apartments swayed for a few seconds, prompting many to rush out of their homes and offices as a precaution. Although the tremors created panic in several areas, there have been no immediate reports of major damage to property or loss of life. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised local administrations to remain alert. Disaster management teams are also keeping a watch on developments in case of any aftershocks.

Experts note that West Bengal is located near seismically active regions, making the state vulnerable to occasional earthquakes. Tremors originating in neighbouring countries and the Himalayan region are often felt across different parts of the state. Kolkata’s soft alluvial soil can sometimes amplify the impact of seismic waves, making tremors more noticeable.
