The official resignation was submitted in the KMC chairperson Mala Roy’s office. After a press conference, he left the KMC headquarters with the end of more than 7 years of serving as mayor. He mentioned that he cannot continue to corrupt the chair and disrespect its dignity. He wanted to leave the chair with his head held high. Though ruling party allegations are there that he did not perform his work effectively after the 2026 assembly election result.

As the mayor of Kolkata, he has handled the worst situations like Amphan and the Covid-19 pandemic situation. With his initiative, the ‘Talk to Mayor’ programme was started which helped in the relief of the common people.
